What is SMP?

Scalp micropigmentation places tiny, natural-looking dots of pigment into the scalp to recreate the look of hair. It can create a fuller shaved-head look, add density to thinning hair, or soften the look of scars.

Will it look natural or fake?

The goal is always a natural result that blends into your own hair. It is designed to look like real hair, not a painted-on look. Results vary from person to person, which is why we talk it all through at your consultation.

Does it hurt?

Most people find it very manageable, and everyone feels it differently. A numbing cream can be used for comfort if you would like it.

How many sessions will I need?

Usually two to four sessions, spread over a few weeks. This is an estimate, as everyone's skin heals differently. We build your plan at the consultation.

How much does it cost?

It depends on the treatment and the extent of hair loss, so every quote is personal. Treatments usually range from $1,500 to $4,000, and you receive a clear quote for the whole treatment at your consultation.

How long does it last?

SMP is long lasting. It can soften over time, and most people have a refresh every five years or so. This is normal and part of looking after your result.

Do I need to shave my head?

For a shaved-head look, yes, you will need to keep your hair trimmed short so everything blends evenly. For density on thinning hair, you keep your usual style. We will explain exactly what suits you.

Can you help with thinning hair?

Yes. Density treatments add the look of fullness and are designed to blend in with your own hair. The aim is to improve the look, not create a heavy, dark finish.

How is a density treatment different from a shaved-head treatment?

Density work uses more dots, placed closer together from the very first session, with a pigment shade chosen to blend with your existing hair. Because the work is more concentrated, we allow a little longer between sessions, usually 10 to 14 days, so your scalp can heal properly.

When can I wash my hair after a density session?

You can rinse your hair with water from about 48 hours after your session, then towel dry or blow dry on cool. Shampoo and conditioner can be used from day 5. With hair present, natural oils can build up and make the scalp itchy, so keeping the scalp clean matters.

Can I dye my hair before or after a density treatment?

Yes, just not too close to your appointment. Dye your hair at least 3 days before treatment so no excess dye is left on the scalp, and wait at least 10 days after a session before colouring again.

Will SMP affect my hair growth?

The pigment is placed around your hair follicles into a shallow layer of skin, so the process is designed not to affect current or future hair growth.

Does SMP work on grey, blonde or red hair?

Yes. For grey hair we choose a tone similar to your darkest root. For red or blonde hair we use a warmer, neutralising tone so the result blends naturally.

Can you cover scars or hair transplant scars?

Often yes. Scar work is assessed in person, as scarring can take extra time and sessions. We will look at it together and quote accordingly.

What happens at the consultation?

It is a free, relaxed chat. We talk through your hair loss, what you would like, check if SMP suits you, and answer your questions. No pressure at all.

What about aftercare?

Aftercare matters a lot for a good result. You will get simple instructions to follow after each session, and we are always here if you have questions.

How do I book?

Message the word SMP to start, and we will arrange your free consultation.

SMP suitability depends on the individual, results vary, and the final look settles as the skin heals.
